All of our sail rigs include leeboards so you can tack into the wind. Leeboards work just like a centerboard, except they are on the sides. All our boats can be launched from a beach and sailed back into a beach -- all underwater parts pivot up automatically when they hit bottom. Sail rig only is item 2001 or 2009.

Everything comes apart, collapses or folds so the whole kit without the boat can fit into a bag about 4 feet long, about the size of a set of golf clubs. The sail kit (everything but the boat) weighs about 33 pounds. The boats range from 18 pounds (9' Caravelle) to 80 pounds (Mariner - but it breaks down into 2 40-lb packages). Sevylor itself proved that its boats could take the strain of sail, rudder and leeboards being attached to the inflatable hull. But, the Sevylor sail kit is discontinued, and our sail kit is far superior anyway. Our sail rigs are made tough, to stand up to wind, waves and salt water. You will be impressed with the quality. Not up for sailing on some days? Many of the boats also can take gas or electric outboards, (most require optional motor mount to use a motor). Try that on your Sunfish! Put our sail rig on a Zodiac or similar hard-transom tender (below). The sail rig for this type of boat is item 2009. We recommend the Saturn, item 2010 (boat and sail rig), as a good boat to mate up with this sail rig. A 55 SF custom sail at left, standard 45 SF sail at right.

Stabilizer Floats (foam) and arms for Our Sail Rig or Rowing Rig Ethafoam floats on aluminum outrigger arms that slide into the main crossbar of the sail rig to help keep you from tipping over. Mostly for canoes and kayaks, but also work on inflatable dinghies with our sail rig if you feel the need. The inflatables dinghies are very stable even without them, but not impossible to tip. To use on canoe, without buying sail rig, order our "Stabilizer system: Floats + Crossbar + Clamps" (listed on both parts and canoe rig pages, item 5005). The item #1000 canoe kit already has these included. For motoring or sailing, consider item #1006 hydrodynamic style or the inflatable style instead.
Intex Mariner with Our Sail Rig - Complete Inflatable Sailboat The Intex Mariner is the boat to get if you plan to sail with 3 or 4 people and a picnic lunch. Video of Mariner Almost 11 feet long (130") and almost 5 feet wide (57"), with a solid roll-up floor. The cockpit is much larger than a Sevylor 11 footer, despite similar over-all dimensions, because the air chambers are smaller. Plus, the solid floor enhances the feeling of space because the floor stays relatively flat under your foot or bottom. This is an extremely stable, rigid, substantial-feeling boat. Under the floor is an inflatable spine running the length of the boat that gives the hull a "V" shape under the water, which helps it track well. The disadvantage of this boat is weight: The floor is 40 lbs and the boat is about the same, so together they are about 80 lbs. Fortunately, it's easy to remove and install the floor by deflating one main air chamber, so when we don't have help, we just separate the floor and the boat into two portable 40-lb packages. If you can't afford our Saturn or Baltic model but want a boat for group sailing with room for the cooler, this is the one. Comes with 45 s.f. nylon sail standard. This same sail rig will fit lighter boats such as the Intex Seahawk II or any of the Sevylor Caravelles and Super Caravelles 9 ft and up, so for an extra $100 - $200 you could give yourself a lighter-weight second hull as an accessory -- a different sailboat to take when traveling light. Another option, more expensive, but same size and not as heavy is the Navigator II 500, also on this page.
Intex provides a lousy hand pump and good oars with the hull.
Accessories to consider:
(a) Get our bellows foot pump or one of our electrics that run off the car cigarette lighter.
(b) Sail options. Upgrade to 55 S.F. sail for more speed on days with weak winds. Upgrade to custom dacron sail in either 45 or 55 S.F. size and pick your colors. (Photo shows a custom dacron sail in 55 S.F. size.)
(c) Heavy duty mast.
(d) Carry bag for the rig. Either the standard bag just big enough for the sail rig or our new larger, heavy-duty bag -- same $39 price on either.
(e) Floating waterproof cellphone case.
More info With optional motor mount, can take up to 2.2 HP motor weighing up to 40 lbs. Maximum load in the boat is 704 lbs. If you already have the Mariner, and just want the sail kit, buy item 2001.
Hydro-Dynamic Stabilizer Floats & Arms (slide into crossbar of a sail or rowing kit) Longer and more streamlined than the foam floats. These are pontoons on telescoping arms that can be added to most of our sail rigs and rowing rigs to help prevent capsizing. This is an accessory for a sail kit or rowing rig that has a crossbar these can slide into. See item 5026 for a complete stabilizer including crossbar and gunwale clamps. MORE DETAILS CLICK HERE
Inflatable stabilizer floats and arms Rugged, yet more portable than our other stabilizer floats because they deflate. Very puncture resistant and they inflate quickly and easily with just a few puffs by mouth -- no need to carry a pump. They have one-way valves, so blow in as hard as you can to top them off and then take your time screwing the cap on. The one-way valves will keep the air from rushing back out and since they can take all the pressure your lungs can give them, you can inflate them hard. They have dual side-by-side mounting rings that attach them to their aluminum arms, so they are firmly held pointing straight ahead. This item is not designed with the up/down adjustment. This item is just floats and arms for adding to a sail kit, rowing setup, or other product that already has crossbar for them to slide into. See next item if you want that up/down adjusting inflatable floats. For sailing, you use floats in all-the-way-up position anyway, so if that's the intended use of your stabilizers, you don't need up/down adjustment. Sail Rig for Zodiac-type inflatable tenders Put a sail on your Zodiac or the Item 2010 Saturn 11 footer below or similar boat! Ruggedly built sail rig easily straps to fittings already on your boat (handles, D-rings, oarlocks -- there are always enough attachment points). Four steering options: (1) Standard rudder mount requires you to drill two little holes in transom for rudder mounts, which are easily removed (no tools, 60 seconds) to re-mount your outboard; (2) if you don't want to drill, buy our Clamp-On Rudder Mount below (item #5029); or (3) get steering oar setup instead of rudder -- no drilling and allows outboard motor to stay in place (item #5036); or, (4) "Motor Rudder" option allows you to attach our rudder blade to your outboard (item #5037). Intex Seahawk Sport 400 as a Complete Inflatable Sailboat Based on the Intex Seahawk Sport 400 3-ply PVC inflatable boat. Our personal favorite because it's light, stiff and has a great hull shape for sailing. Comfortable. Superseded by Seahawk II (below) very similar but with 2 oarlocks instead of 4 so please order that instead. (Sport 400 no longer available.) Length is actually 3" shorter than 10', but the cockpit is longer and wider than you get with a Sevylor 10' Caravelle. Included: Intex hand pump, aluminum-shaft oars and nylon boat bag are included. The only other extras you might want are a carry bag ( #6005) for the sail rig, and perhaps you may want to upgrade to the bigger sail and heavy-duty mast (#5011). A foot pump or electric would also be a good addition. Standard sail is 45-sq.-ft. red/white/blue/yellow nylon sail. Weight of the boat is 32 pounds, rig is 31 lbs. If you want greater stiffness in your hull, this is the boat to get (or Mariner or Seahawk II). Motor mount sold separately and not needed for sailing. We find the Sevylor foot pump more comfortable to use than the Intex hand pump, so be forewarned you may be coming back for a foot pump or electric pump. Oars are superior to Sevylor's. Sliding leeboard mounts (Pair) Allows you to adjust position of leeboards on our kayak, and inflatable boat sail kits (excluding kits for Pakboat, SVX200 & similar, where mast position is adjustable instead). Following the instructions provided, you will be able to fine-tune your rig for the combination of hull, sail, sailing conditions and preferences you have. Farther forward gives slightly better upwind performance. Farther back (up to a point) gives less drag and less effort on steering oar to hold course going straight ahead. Too far back gives control problems. Adjustable positioning allows you to adapt rig to wider variety of boats, and to your desired handling characteristics. The inflatable rig and the kayak rig work on rigid canoes if you get sliding leeboard mounts and 2 pair of gunwale clamps. (Canoes need the leeboards farther forward than the standard fixed position for kayaks and inflatables). Changing leeboard position with these sliding mounts requires no tools and can be done in a few seconds provided you aren't also trying to sail the boat at the same time. Do on shore or let your passenger do it for you, so you are not distracted from your duties as skipper!

Electric Air Pump - Power Inflator 12V DC works off car cigarette lighter We tested many inflators before choosing 2 to sell. This is the quietest one we tested. Plugs into cigarette lighter. Has hose and adaptors for different size valves. Will inflate 11' Super Caravelle or Mariner in about 10 minutes. You don't have to hold it, so while main chambers are filling, you can be getting the rest of your gear arranged. A few puffs by mouth required to top off each chamber. You can do these puffs into the end of the hose (it detaches from pump), so you don't have to pucker up right against the boat. If you want option for cordless operation, get item 2016 instead. However, only this pump can be reversed to help deflate the boat. Squeeze most of the air out by rolling or folding, then suck the rest out using this pump to get your boat as small as possible for convenient transporting and storage. For deflation, you do have to hold the hose in the boat's orifice and block leakage around the hose with your hand, but this is easily and quickly done and the deflation function is very effective.
Cordless Electric Air Pump Inflator We tested many inflators before choosing which to sell. Works cordlessly on it's internal rechargeable battery, charges from AC outlet. Has a hose, which is a big benefit -- otherwise you have to stand there and hold the inflator. The whole point of a power inflator, we think, it to be able to be doing other things while it's working! Will inflate most boats in about 10 minutes. Tiller Turner lets you sail sitting centered in the boat with center rudder The Tiller Turner accessory for a center rudder gets the tiller (the handle that controls the rudder) out of the middle of the boat, so you can sit there. Eliminates need to shift sitting position when you tack. Steering becomes a push-pull motion instead of side-to-side. Tiller is located on the side, so you can sit centered on the floor at the stern, with the rear air chamber for back support, and comfortably steer with one hand, at your side.
Center rudder for inflatable dinghy sail rigs, substitute for side steering oar Add this item to delete the steering oar system (tiller on the side) from one of our sail kits or complete inflatable sailboats, and substitute instead a traditional center rudder and tiller. This is a substitution option, so you have to have a sail kit or sailboat in your order. See 2044 for item by itself, not as a substitution. We prefer the steering oar on the side, generally. It gives more control and allows you to sit centered, lean against the rear air chamber, and have the tiller at your side, right where your hand would naturally be. But for kids and some small adults may find the center rudder more comfortable and convenient. Traditionalists may prefer it also. It works particularly well on the Navigator III 400, for 2 reasons: (1) The Navigator III 400 has a full-width stern (as opposed to many other boats that narrow toward the stern) so there is more room to either side of the center tiller and (2) the Navigator III has really firm air chambers, so you can sit on the side air chamber without squashing it and use the center tiller really conveniently (just one of several ways to sit in this boat and use the center rudder). The rudder also works with our "tiller turner" system (sold separately) which converts the control of the center rudder to a push-pull motion at your side.

Motor mount for Intex Seahawk Sport 400 etc. Adapts the current Intex motor mount to fit the Seahawk Sport 400 and other pre-2005 Seahawks that have motor mount fittings. This item includes the 3015 motor mount and a set of adaptors to make it work on older Seahawks, including the Sport 400, provided they have motor mount fittings.
Explanation: The Seahawk Sport 400 and its motor mount have been discontinued by Intex. The motor mount for the current Intex boats won't fit the Seahawk Sport 400 and other older Seahawks. But, with this adaptor we have created, it will fit just fine.
Sometimes, we have the old-style motor mount available (item 3024). These are hard to find. Generally, item 3024 is out of stock and therefore the adaptor plus the current motor mount is the only way to go.
Book On Learning To Sail -- Jim's Favorite We've read them all (almost) and this is the best "How-To-Sail-For- Beginners" type book out there. It's the one used by the Annapolis Sailing School. It's got one female author and one male author, so both halves of our species were represented in its creation, which for a "how-to" book is a good thing.

Steering Oar & Oarpin Flat-bladed 7' oar with clamp-on oarpin. Use with our sail kits and canoe rowing attachment. Sail kits come with one, but you may like to have a second one. It's very convenient, when sailing, to have steering oars on both sides. You don't use them both at once for steering, but it allows you to steer with either hand without having to shift the steering oar from side to side.

Motor Rudder short rudder head and u-bolt If you want to sail your Zodiac-type boat with our #2009 sail rig, but also keep your outboard on the transom, one option for steering while sailing is to mount the rudder blade to the motor. All you need are: (a) This short rudder head and included square u-bolt, (b) the rudder that comes with the #2009 sail rig, and (c) an outboard stabilizer plate you obtain elsewhere ($59 - we'll tell you where) . This yellow & white 55 SF sail fits any of our sailboats or sail rigs, by adding a spar extension (included with sail). Heavy duty mast is highly recommended with this sail, unless you are sure your winds will always be light. The "Any Kayak" sail rig, no stabilizers Like item 6004 kayak sail rig, but without the stabilizer floats. There are a few kayaks that are wide enough, with flatish bottoms, so that they can be sailed without stabilizer floats if you have reasonable skill and some tolerance for capsize risk. This is also the sail rig for dinghies that can't use item 2001 or 2009 because they lack the right attachment points on the stern. Regarding kayaks: A flat-bottomed hull, combined with some weight up front (a passenger, or some inanimate ballast like a sandbag or water bag) can provide a lot of stability. If later you find you want the floats, it's easy enough to add them -- the float arms just slide right into the front crossbar and lock in place with spring buttons. Regarding dinghies: This is just like item 2001, except this rig has additional sections that extend the side rails so they reach all the way to the rear crossbar and attach to it, stabilizing it so that it doesn't depend on having motor mount fittings or a stern handle to attach itself to. Regarding both: Email us describing your boat after purchase so we can give you the right width for front crossbar.

Fishing Boat Sail Rig Everything you need to sail your fishing boat in a compact folding kit that just clamps on and away you go. No drilling or other modification of your boat is needed. This is intended for aluminum, fiberglass and plastic open boats. The gunwale clamps grab underneath the little horizontal lip that almost all such boats have at the top edge of the sides. If your boat has no lip, we can provide a bolt-on bracket that the clamps can mate with for $19 additional. The rig includes a 45 s.f. nylon sail (red-white-blue-yellow), spars, mast, mast step (socket), frame that clamps to the boat and accepts the mast step and leeboard mounts, leeboards, gunwale clamps, a rear crossbar that goes just forward of the transom and provides pivot points for the ruddering oar, and a special wide-bladed ruddering oar and oarlock. You can even sail with an outboard mounted on the transom, because our ruddering oar (steering oar) system has many alternate pivot points: If the center positions are blocked by an outboard, use one of the side positions. If you prefer a traditional rudder, we offer that as an option. If you are willing to mount two eyebolts on the transom of your boat, you can have the traditional rudder instead of the steering oar system for $49 additional or if you want a clamp-on rudder mount and traditional rudder it's $98 as a substitution for the steering oar system . Another option to consider is a larger sail and stronger mast. The larger sail/stronger mast combination is $149 additional and the sail will be a 55 S.F. yellow & white sail with a black outline drawing of a Sunflower on it (item 5011). A spar extension to accomodate the larger sail is included in the upgrade price. Custom-made dacron sails are also available in both the 45 S.F. and 55 S.F. sizes -- you choose the colors and custom lettering is available at $7/letter. Deluxe Fishing Boat Sail Rig Just like item 7000 (so please read that item) but in a deluxe package: Includes larger 55 SF nylon sail, spar extension, heavy duty mast, heavy-duty carrying bag. This is the steering oar version, which is the version that works with an outboard motor on the transom. The steering oar also has an advantage over a traditional rudder in that you can turn the boat with it even if you have no forward motion. A rudder requires the boat to be moving in order to work. A steering oar does not, so you can't get stuck "in irons" (pointed head-on into the wind and not moving). But a steering oar puts a little more strain on your arm than a rudder does in a strong wind.
