DINGHY RIG UPGRADES, OPTIONS, AND ACCESSORIES

UPGRADES

SailboatsToGo offers substitutions of selected standard components. Consider buying these upgrades while you are making a purchase of a sail rig or related component from us.  Upgrade prices reflect a credit for deleting the standard version of the component and you pay just price difference between the standard and the higher cost component.   You may also want to check out the deluxe  package versions of our products. The deluxe versions include popular upgrades at a discounted price.   A little farther down the page are options and accessories not involving a substitution, but rather just an add-on of something to enhance your sailboat.

Please note: Upgrades are substitutions for standard components and can only be purchased at the upgrade price with a sail rig or the standard component being upgraded.

HEAVY DUTY MAST UPGRADE

Stronger, taller mast.  This is included if you upgrade to the larger sail.  But even if you get the standard 45 SF sail, you can benefit from this upgrade. The taller mast gives you more headroom under the boom.  It's greater strength gives you peace of mind that you have the strongest mast in case you are ever caught out in a sudden storm.  And if you ever decide to upgrade to the larger 55 SF sail, this is the mast you will need.

CENTER RUDDER INSTEAD OF    SIDE STEERING OAR SYSTEM

We like the steering oar steering system, but for kids,  smaller adults or traditionalists the traditional center rudder may be preferable.

Rudder steering:  Takes less arm effort in high wind, but you have to sit to the side to make room for the tiller, and you have to have forward motion to have steering control.

Steering Oar steering: Is on the side, so you can sit centered, and forward motion is not required to steer with it.

Quick-Release Leeboard Mount

Upgrade to a quick-release leeboard mount and save a minute setting up and dismantling.  No need to ever unscrew the leeboard knob. Seems trivial, but if you sail often, you start to resent the time spent turning these knobs to set up and take down. Also, increases durability because both male and female threads are stainless steel instead of on one being aluminum.   Highly recommended!

OPTIONS AND ACCESSORIES

Outfit your rig with these extras to make sailing even more of a breeze!

SECOND STEERING OAR & OARPIN

Your sail kit has a steering oar socket on each side, but only one steering oar comes with the sail kit. It’s generally more comfortable to steer with the oar on the downwind side.  With 2 steering oars,  you simply switch hands whenever you want, letting the other oar trail behind freely.  This saves having to move the oar to the socket on the other side. (Also; Mariner and Solstice boats can use the steering oars in the regular rowing oarlocks to row the boat, in place of the light-duty short oars the boat maker provides.)

CARRY BAG

Big enough for the sail rig and more. Strong fabric and strong zipper.

SLIP-ON WHEELS

Once you get these you'll wonder how you got along without them.  Wheels on legs slip quickly and easily into the front crossbar of your sail kit and turn your boat into a wheelbarrow!  Okay to submerge them.   Light and compact enough to stow in the boat while sailing.  Or, bring a cable and padlock and lock them to a tree while you are on the water!

CLAMPS TO SAIL WITH MOTOR MOUNT

Motor mounts use the same fittings we use for normal attachment of the steering oar unit. These clamps enable both to be used at the same time.

CLAMP-ON RUDDER FOR ZODIAC TYPE RIG

STEERING TUNER

Lets you adjust mast position forward to tune the boat for perfect steering balance.  Find the perfect mast location for your boat and your preferences!  Reduced "weather helm" (tendency to turn upwind), means less effort to hold a straight course and less rudder drag slowing you down. .
