These 3 pictures (2 above, 1 to left) demonstrate the versatility of our item 6004 sail rig. It can go on an enclosed hard shell Eskimo kayak like the Walden at upper left, an inflatable like the Innova at upper right, or a sit-on-top like the Tango at lower left. No drilling, no modification of your kayak required. It just straps on, and away you go! This is a true upwind sail kit. Works on almost any kayak. Inflatable stabilizer floats and arms Rugged, yet more portable than our other stabilizer floats because they deflate. Very puncture resistant and they inflate quickly and easily with just a few puffs by mouth -- no need to carry a pump. They have one-way valves, so blow in as hard as you can to top them off and then take your time screwing the cap on. The one-way valves will keep the air from rushing back out and since they can take all the pressure your lungs can give them, you can inflate them hard. They have dual side-by-side mounting rings that attach them to their aluminum arms, so they are firmly held pointing straight ahead. This item is not designed with the up/down adjustment. This item is just floats and arms for adding to a sail kit, rowing setup, or other product that already has crossbar for them to slide into. See next item if you want that up/down adjusting inflatable floats. For sailing, you use floats in all-the-way-up position anyway, so if that's the intended use of your stabilizers, you don't need up/down adjustment. Very lively winds today, 12-16 knots at times. Boat handles great under sail, glad I got the inflatable stabilizers for sailing solo. (The hydrodynamic ones would be great but I needed everything to be RV packable.)

Sliding leeboard mount converters (Pair) Allows you to adjust position of leeboards on our "Any Kayak", and inflatable boat sail kits (excluding kits for Pakboat, SVX200, Saturn & similar, where mast position is adjustable instead). Following the instructions provided, you will be able to fine-tune your rig for the combination of hull, sail, sailing conditions and preferences you have. Farther forward gives slightly better upwind performance. Farther back (up to a point) gives less drag and less effort on steering oar to hold course going straight ahead. Too far back gives control problems. Adjustable positioning allows you to adapt rig to wider variety of boats, and to your desired handling characteristics. The inflatable rig and the kayak rig work on rigid canoes if you get sliding leeboard mounts and 2 pair of gunwale clamps. (Canoes need the leeboards farther forward than the standard fixed position for kayaks and inflatables). Changing leeboard position with these sliding mounts requires no tools and can be done in a few seconds provided you aren't also trying to sail the boat at the same time. Do on shore or let your passenger do it for you, so you are not distracted from your duties as skipper!
Electric Air Pump - Power Inflator 12V DC works off car cigarette lighter We tested many inflators before choosing 2 to sell. This is the quietest one we tested. Plugs into cigarette lighter. Has hose and adaptors for different size valves. Will inflate 11' Super Caravelle or Mariner in about 10 minutes. You don't have to hold it, so while main chambers are filling, you can be getting the rest of your gear arranged. A few puffs by mouth required to top off each chamber. You can do these puffs into the end of the hose (it detaches from pump), so you don't have to pucker up right against the boat. If you want option for cordless operation, get item 2016 instead. However, only this pump can be reversed to help deflate the boat. Squeeze most of the air out by rolling or folding, then suck the rest out using this pump to get your boat as small as possible for convenient transporting and storage. For deflation, you do have to hold the hose in the boat's orifice and block leakage around the hose with your hand, but this is easily and quickly done and the deflation function is very effective.

Deluxify Any Inflatable Sailboat or Sail Kit Adding this item to your shopping cart does the following:
1) Converts the sail kit or inflatable sailboat in your order to the heavy duty mast and 55 SF nylon sail with spar extension.
2) Add a carry bag for the sail kit.
3) Adds a DC electric pump. Pump will do most, but not all, of the inflation chore for you but you must top off with a hand pump to reach recommended pressure.
Trinity II by Aire 15' Sailing Kayak - Best Quality Faster and more durable than the Sevylor or Saturn kayaks. Made by Aire but sold as the Trinity II (private label). We found this boat on a serious kayaking website (www.theboatpeople.com, under "touring kayaks") and married it to our sail kit, and are very pleased with the results. Part of the reason it is so fast is that it is very narrow - just 32 inches. It can be sailed without stabilizer floats if you're good, but most people will want to add our item 1006 stabilizer floats because this kayak is narrow and tippy. This item is the boat, 2 seats and the complete sail kit with 45 SF sail. 2 steering oars included. Hull length is 15' 3". Self bailing. Hull weight is 44 pounds. Click on picture at left to enlarge. Available with the red/white/blue/yellow sail that you see on many of our other boats on this website or the 2-tone blue. We haven't done a really good video of this boat yet, but there's a clip at http://tinyurl.com/trinityII . Boat does not come with paddles or a pump or a boat bag. Item 2054 will supply these. Recommended order: Items 2048, 2054, 1006, and 6005. Consider 5011 too; or 301 will get you both 5011 and 6005 plus an electric inflator to do most (but not all) of the inflation.
Aire Tomcat Tandem with Sail Kit Big enough for 2, stable enough to sail without stabilizer floats (though they are available), and it's a self-bailer with a high floor. You stay relatively dry and any water that gets in runs out again. Rugged outer skin protect inner air bladder. A very good quality kayak. Sail kit is like that on the Trinity II or the Saturn kayaks. Sail kit is available separately for $599. Included at this price is the complete sail kit with 2 steering oars, leeboards mast and 45-sq.ft. sail. Add item 5011 to upgrade to a 55-sq.ft. sail and taller, stronger mast. Kayakers accessory package - paddles, pump, bag We put this together especially for the Aire Tomcat and Trinity II, but it would be good for other boats too. It consists of: 2 good quality paddles (take apart fiberglass shafts, fairly light) from Clear Blue Hawaii, a bag with shoulder straps for carrying the deflated kayak (from Sea Eagle), and a Bravo 9 foot pump, which is a really good foot pump. The price is based on $75 each for the paddles, $45 for the pump and $39 for the bag.

Compact Carry Bag - fits sail rigs This handy duffel bag is custom made to fit all the parts for the inflatable boat sail kit or kayak kit (excluding pontoons). And, the bag is within the allowable dimensions for standard bags on the airlines. Actual bag is even better than pictured: It is gray and has shopping bag handles in center, made of strong webbing, in addition to shoulder strap. Dimensions are 47" x 9" x 7" with full-length zipper and shoulder strap. The standard leeboards will creat a bulge in the bag that will make it over 9" wide at that point. If you want to avoid that bulge, get the item 5092 leeboard upgrade to the longer, skinnier leeboards.
Alternatives: We have a larger bag -- see item 6005, with room for extra gear or for stabilizer floats. We've flown with it many times and never been charged extra due to its size. Or item 3031 is a lower-priced alternative without shoulder strap.

Book On Learning To Sail -- Jim's Favorite We've read them all (almost) and this is the best "How-To-Sail-For- Beginners" type book out there. It's the one used by the Annapolis Sailing School. It's got one female author and one male author, so both halves of our species were represented in its creation, which for a "how-to" book is a good thing.

Pakboats are a line of folding canoes and kayaks with interior aluminum frame, non-inflatable PVC skin, and inflatable tubes between the frame and skin. Pakboat Puffin Saranac folding kayak with deluxe sail kit An open folding kayak for 2 people with our deluxe sail kit (see description for item #3026 for what this includes). This is a complete sailboat in two duffel bags. The kayak (you could call it a canoe) weighs just 28 lbs, yet has a capacity of 2 persons/400 lbs and a length of 15 feet. Kayak assembles in about 20 minutes (twice that the first few times); similar for the sail kit. We're excited about the speed, portability and upwind sailing ability of this sailboat. Hydo-dynamic floats are longer and more streamlined than the standard foam floats. So, they cause less drag when going through the water. It's very convenient, when sailing, to have steering oars on both sides. Rubber nut works kind of like a "molly" or "screw plug" hollow wall anchor you might use in your house to hang a picture or a shelf bracket. Auto makers use them to mount luggage racks, so you know they are strong! Just drill hole, insert rubber nut (rubber collar keeps it from falling through and seals hole), and screw in your bolt. Bag for sail rigs - big Big enough for the canoe or kayak rig including the stabilizer floats, with a handy pouch compartment for small parts. Also good for the inflatable boat rig. Heavily padded shoulder strap and suitcase-type handle. Strong fabric and strong zipper. Get it for the inflatable boat sail rig even if you don't get stabilizers, so you'll have extra room for a towel and a life jacket and a few other odds and ends. Although it's technically too big for the airline free baggage allowance, Jim (SailboatsToGo owner) has flown with it many times and never gotten hit with an over-sized bag fee. They weigh stuff, but rarely measure dimensions. If you want a bag that fits within airline dimension restrictions and can hold the sail rig excluding stabilizer floats, see item 3012 (item 3012 bag requires upgraded leeboards; item 6005 bag does not). For a similar size bag that has wheels, see item 6021.
Braces for foam floats If you sail or motor with foam floats pressed hard on the water and moving fast in the water, the foam floats may eventually develop some play between the float and the vertical tube it is mounted on. A pair of these braces will help keep the foam floats pointed straight ahead, preventing that play from developing, or correcting it if it has already developed. Not needed with hydrodynamic floats nor with foam floats in moderate use. Braces may only be used with floats in up position but floats are easily released from braces to go into down position.

The "Any Kayak" sail rig, no stabilizers Like item 6004 kayak sail rig, but without the stabilizer floats. There are a few kayaks that are wide enough, with flatish bottoms, so that they can be sailed without stabilizer floats if you have reasonable skill and some tolerance for capsize risk. This is also the sail rig for dinghies that can't use item 2001 or 2009 because they lack the right attachment points on the stern. Regarding kayaks: A flat-bottomed hull, combined with some weight up front (a passenger, or some inanimate ballast like a sandbag or water bag) can provide a lot of stability. If later you find you want the floats, it's easy enough to add them -- the float arms just slide right into the front crossbar and lock in place with spring buttons. Regarding dinghies: This is just like item 2001, except this rig has additional sections that extend the side rails so they reach all the way to the rear crossbar and attach to it, stabilizing it so that it doesn't depend on having motor mount fittings or a stern handle to attach itself to. Regarding both: Email us describing your boat after purchase so we can give you the right width for front crossbar.

Bolt-on upwind kayak rig (no stabilizers) A sail rig that fastens to your kayak with metal legs and brackets, but is still easy and quick to remove. Most kayaks choose our strap-on rig (item 6004 or 6020) so they don't have to do any drilling and bolting. But the bolt-on rig has advantages, such as no side bars (makes it easier to paddle and easier to get in and out) and the elegance of an all-metal attachment system. Most kayaks will need stabilizer floats (see item 1006 for the most popular, highest-performing option) and these are ordered separately. If your kayak is at least 36 inches wide, you might get away without them.
