About the Super Snark

The Basics

The Super Snark sailboat is unsinkable, easy to learn, fun to sail, and simple to transport and setup.  It is the entry-level Snark, but many people find it fully satisfies their sailing needs.  Read comments from Super Snark buyers (below).

The Super Snark is exceedingly portable and storable. We keep ours suspended from our basement ceiling so it's completely out of the way during the winter.  (We offer the suspsension system, see our upgrades and options list).  The Super Snark's  light weight makes it easy to load onto your vehicle.   Roof racks with slide-out loading bars make it even easier!

For the next step up in the Snark line, take a look at the Sunflower -- same length, but  more width and depth for greater stability and comfort.  Also, the Sunflower has these premium features: a deck covering the bow area, to deflect splash and keep you dryer, a bigger sail, for greater speed and an optional bench seat.

Videos

We have taken numerous videos of ourselves having fun with the Snark sailboat on the water.  Here are two of our favorites.

Snark History

The Super Snark is a market-proven classic with a passionate following. Snarks have been made since the the mid 1960's. They are highly durable. Many from that era are still in service. We own one from 1972 and it sails perfectly (see video above)! Jim purchased that boat second-hand from the original owner, who related many fond memories of sailing it as his kids were growing up. Many Snark sailors have posted their own pictures and videos of their beloved boats. See some here.

Colors

Hull colors:  Super Snark hulls are white inside the cockpit and either blue, red or white outside.  Sorry, the manufacturer does not provide an option to choose your outside color and we cannot predict what it will be. Sunflower hulls are always yellow outside.

Sail colors:  There will be a colorful sail packed with the boat.  We can't predict the design of that sail, but we can assure you it will be color-coordinated with the hull outside color.

Sail Swap option: If you want to choose a sail design, you can, no additional charge! How about a pirate sail! We will mail your chosen sail ahead of the boat delivery, and then you will send back to us the sail packed with the boat.  The post office provides suitable envelopes for free and your postage cost will be about $5 to $7.

We offer 7 different nylon sail designs for the Sail Swap. You can choose one at no additional charge: Click Here to see the options. Nylon is durable, easy to fold, and is the material that has been standard for Snark sails for 50 years.

Dacron (polyester) is a premium sail material, almost universally used on bigger boats for the main sail, because it holds its airfoil shape better in a strong wind. Theoretically, this should be better for upwind performance. We offer dacron sails for the sail swap at $29 extra for white or $70 extra for multi-color with premium-quality workmanship. For white Dacron Click Here. For the multi-color Dacron sails Click Here, You can choose from either our Pastel Corners or Candy Stripes dacron sails.

Shipping

All Snark sailboats are shipped via Freight truck right to your home.  An estimated shipping amount is charged at time of ordering and then a final shipping cost is determined and submitted for your approval.

Call or email for shipping rates for outside the contiguous 48 states. We ship Snarks to Canada, Alaska, Hawaii, Europe, etc.

To order, click the Add to Cart button above that corresponds to your time zone.  You will receive an order confirmation by email. We will send you an email with details on the delivery process, including a video link, before your boat arrives.

When the boat reaches your area, the trucker will call to set up a delivery appointment, so you can be there to inspect the boat and sign for it.  In the unlikely event your boat arrives damaged, please do not accept delivery. That way, we can just send a replacement boat right away and we -- not you -- will handle the insurance claim afterwards.

Sail Swap and Bonuses

Before you check out, visit our Sail Swap page and select your sail if you want to exchange the sail that will come with your boat for one of our sails.  This will add the sail to your cart at no additional cost. Then, with your Super Snark sailboat and any other options or upgrades you want also in your cart, proceed to checkout. When you checkout there will be an "order comments" space near the top left of the screen. This is the area where you can tell us if you want to take advantage of one of the two bonus offers. After completing the rest of the order page, click the "process sale" button. You will see a confirmation screen with a button to display your invoice. A confirmation will also be sent to the email address you entered.

Options and Upgrades

In addition to the Sail Swap option, we also offer several add-on products for the Snark including a rowing rig, stabilizer pontoons to help prevent tipping, an extension to raise the sail higher giving you more headroom, portage carts, and roof racks for your Snark! The Sail Swap option is described at left (bottom of middle column).   The "Zowie" nylon sail is pictured below:

Super Snark, with SailboatsToGo co-owner Jim Luckett (crew)  and his granddaughter Vida (captain).  This sail is "Zowie", it's one of the nylon options available as a no cost exchange through our Sail Swap optiion. It goes well with any hull color.

"I love the Snark!  I can lift it onto my car's roof rack without help...It is easy to raise and lower the sail.  It is fun to sail, even on moderate (2-3 foot) ocean waves." - Tom L.
