Canoe Motor Mount
3 Styles: (1) Hinged for trolling motors where you are worried about hitting something underwater. Or (2) Rigid "Super Strong" for both trolling motors and gas motors. Extension fits either and lets you mount motor farther forward where canoe is wider, for better balance when motoring solo. Extremely rigid and well made. Don't risk your motor with a flimsy motor mount. A motor mount should be strong. This is a long page; please keep scrolling down. Questions, phone orders: 978 263 7598 or toll free: 1- 888- JOY SAIL. Designed for trolling motors, this canoe motor mount is hinged so that your trolling motor will flip up automatically if it hits an underwater obstruction. Clamps onto your canoe gunwales without tools. Rated to 3 HP. Without the extension (item 5054) fits up to 20-inch width. With extension, fits up to 30 inch width, so you can move motor farther forward. Unhinged version, next item (5053). If your motor has its own tip-up mechanism, that is easier to use with non-hinged motor mount. Heavy-duty construction: The crossbar is 3/8" thick by 2 1/2" wide solid marine-alloy aluminum. The clamps are heavy, ribbed castings for strength and rigidity, with 3/8" diameter threaded shanks for the hand knobs on top that you use to tighten the clamps. Click on picture to enlarge. Similar to hinged motor mount (item 5052) but rigid and stronger with bigger block for mounting motor. Great for electrics and also gas motors up to 3 HP. Maximum motor weight is 35 lbs. Clamps slide to adjust to canoe width, up to 20 inches apart, but with extension (item 5054) can fit up to 30 inch width. Safety note: Motoring solo from the rear seat of a canoe is dangerous, because the uneven weight distribution puts the bow up in the air, and then the thrust of the motor can put it more up in the air, to the point where you could flip or swamp. At a minimum, put some weight up front. Better yet, turn canoe around and use the bow seat as the rear seat, which will put you and the motor closer to the middle. A set of our leeboards will improve steering control and help you fight crosswinds (item 5056). Set of our canoe stabilizers also strongly recommended for capsize prevention. Fits either item 5052 or 5053 so you can move the motor mount foward on your canoe. Most canoe motor mounts won't accomodate the width of a canoe anywhere but very close to the stern. Extension allows 5052 or 5053 motor mount to go up to 30 inchs wide. (Low shipping cost assumes you are buying other items. If purchased solo, we will add $8 more to the shipping but it won't show on your checkout screen). |

Canoe Stabilizers (pontoons) Recommended with Motoring! We have them: Click Here
Leeboards improve steering control with motor. Leeboards also great for paddling or rowing.
| 5056 |
Clamp this leeboard set onto your canoe near the front to help you go straight. Leeboards are like paddle blades in the water, aligned to help you go straight. Greatly improves steering control and resistance to crosswinds when motoring and allows you to move the motor location forward without loss of steering ability. Motoring from the extreme rear of a canoe can be dangerous (risk of swamping or tipping). Motoring in a crosswind can present control problems. Add leeboards, move motor farther from rear end (using an add-on seat or by turning canoe around and using bow seat as the stern seat) and these problems are reduced. Stabilizers also recommended for motoring. Leeboards help with paddling too, but effect is not as dramatic. Unit includes: Telescoping crossbar with threaded ends to accept leeboard bolts, 2 leeboard and mounting bolts with hand knobs, pair of gunwale clamps. No-tool, no drill mounting system; adjustable to fit all canoes. |

The clamps secure the motor mount to your canoe by reaching under the lip of your canoe with the bottom part of the clamp and clamping the crossbar down firmly to the top surface of your canoe gunwales. It is very important that clamps be rigid (stiff, strong) or else they can loosen up as the canoe flexs and bumps and the strain put on them by the motor varies. These motor mounts have extremely beefy clamps for great rigidity and strength. The canoe gunwale lip can be on the inside (e.g. Old Town) or outside (Pelican, Coleman) and this motor mount will work equally well.
