Inflatable Sailing Armada Takes St. John!

In February 2004 we stuffed a K79 Sevylor kayak, an XR116GTX 11' Sevylor inflatable dinghy and a SailboatsToGo sail kit into our luggage and flew to the US Virgin Islands for 10 days of fun and photography in Maho Bay, St. John.

We stayed at Maho Bay Campground, and left the boats inflated on the beach, tied to trees, at night.

Above, is the view from the deck of one of the Maho tent cabins.

One day, we packed up the XR116GTX and sail kit and took it in a taxi to the other side of the island.  And what do you think we saw?  The other side of the island.   And more ocean ("Salt Pond" was the name of the bay).   We met some nice folks there on the beach and gave them rides in the sailboat.

Off the coast of St. John, having sailed out of Salt Pond, beating upwind toward a landmark called "Ram's Head".

It rained, but that just served as inspiration for a new product feature:  The sail can be propped up by the mast, turning it into a beach shelter, to protect against wind, rain or too much sun.
