This rudder unit attaches like a canoe motor mount: Crossbar clamps across the gunwales and sticks out on one side, and rudder pivots off the crossbar. This is the complete unit: crossbar, rudder mount, gunwale clamps, rudder, tiller and hiking stick. Kick-up blade.

Design has changed a bit since the video and some of these photos were made.  Now it's even better. in that rudder height is adjustable and that the whole design is cleaner.   

Blade is phenolic. Upgrade of blade material available (click) to polycarbonate for greater shatter resistance.

Some pictures and videos do not reflect the latest design for the rudder.  Take a look at item 1020.  The pictures and video there are up-to-date and that's the rudder style that applies to 1018.
